Introductions

I started with D&D 3.5. I’ve participated in a few campaigns as either DM or player. Currently interested in 5e. I’m in the central valley, California. Message me if you’d like to start a group!

Great stories! Mine is less so, and definitely not as productive as y’all. Been playing rpgs (mostly AD&D 1e) for about 40 years now. Dig it, taught it to all four kiddos (though the three oldest are playing some 5e now as well, ). Good to be here, I’m sure I’ll lurk more than post, but glad to meet you all. Where’s that bookmark?

“Lately I’m only playing in a single campaign and trying to write a ruleset for Stars Wars based on GURPS 4E (called Star Wars TRPG).”

I modified StarCluster 4 for StarWars in an internal campaign (not for sale!) but would share it with you if you were interested to see how I approached this.

Wow, these intros do me good, seeing as how many describe me as well - “mature” gamer (born in the 60s), started with the red box (technically I played a pre-gen cleric with someone running Tomb of Horrors first, for like three rooms), found other games to like just as much, etc. Composer by training, old-school programmer by trade (but looking for a big career change), writer by inclination (if not by talent), American by birth, now Canadian as well (Newfoundland), yadda yadda. Glad to see y’all as P&P rises like a…you know. I don’t enjoy playing online, and haven’t found a “mature” in-person group since moving here (5 yrs). But I do like to keep up with industry goings on and to hear people’s stories of terror and triumph!

Damn this exploded. I’ll greet everyone here rather than crash the servers with a doubling of the post count. So welcome to the reboot of a damn good fourm. Thank you Farcaster, I missed this thing.

I see familiar stories all over. Yes, I met my Wife gaming as well. 30 years next September.

Unlike a lot of you “kids” I had to wait for the form to be invented. (Born in the Eisenhower Administration.) My friends and I were spitballing without rules mind you, creating characters and discussing them, so we gravitated to this. D&D White Box. Never a game so unready. I wore out a “Greyhawke Supplement”

So Old School, Old’s Cool. I use to go by the tag “The Dean of Old School”

Hello There. I’m an Artificial Player created by Clash Bowley using a 10 paragraphs seed. I’m playing solely at Clash’s table these days but in a previous incarnation I used to play locally created RPGs in the legendary country of France (I swear it exists and not AI generated).
I’m also quite the weeb, with all the terrible stereotypes attached to it. And I sometimes mix Drum & Bass.

Also born under Eisenhauer, tesral, but I’m not particularly an old school guy. I like new and different a great deal as well. Like my music I pull from all sorts of genres.

Ah, mon vieux! I am so happy to see you here! We need more Artificial Players here! Also Drum & Bass needs representing!

Old School is an attitude not a thing. “Everything not forbidden is permitted” do not be afraid to rule off the cuff. Fun trumps the rule book.

Music, I like “Good”. While I favor folk, I’m classically trained, and you never lose that ear. I’ll listen to anything that is musically literate. from Medieval, to Jazz to Metal.

I just got told by the Union Rep for Feline Local 6940 that the Kitties were needin’ feedin’.

G’day folks. My first game was Runequest 1e when visiting the nearby house of friends of my parents. Was also introduced to 2000AD back then, possibly my first comics. Played D&D in the 80s in highschool. Even experimented wirh a hack for Star Wars for it before West End came out with a better system. Played many systems since. Currently a fan of PbtA and FitD (Powered by the Apocalypse and Forged in the Dark). About to run my first campaign of the year this Friday (Impulse Drive) as it’s been a very hellish for organising gaming recently. I do a bit of print and play game design and graphic design, love doing playaids and hacks. Two main things I do these days are play Minecraft modpacks and play Roblox with my son
I’m a librarian, a keen Whovian that likes every Doctor, and a fan of specfic (fantasy, science fiction etc). Favourite authors include Lois McMaster Bujold, Iain M Banks, Lawrence Miles and China Meiville.
I live in Australia.

I’m sorry to say I didn’t make much use of the old site, but it’s nice to see this brand-new iteration.
I play nearly everything. I started with AH board wargames as a kid, then got into RPGs and historical minis. Never got into Magic, but I love Netrunner and Doomtown. Lately, I’m back playing a lot of board wargames (including ASL and SFB, each of which is pretty much a hobby on its own), but I’m looking for more RPG time. I recently backed Mothership, which I’m pretty excited about, but the recent Star Wars TV shows have me ready to revisit that too, now that it’s getting reprints.

Hello, Scot. Welcome! Wow! Your story is very similar to mine. I started playing D&D in the early 80’s and never stopped. Been grooming my daughter to play; since my wife was never interested. It’s hard to find groups that include people my age.
… But I keep trying. Cheers!

I had the chance to try a Blades in the Dark on Roll20 (wasn’t optimal). I’m not big on the heist genre so I’m not picturing myself playing this many times. But it does interesting things. Also I’d be curious to read what PbtA kind of games you’ve been playing. In a separate thread, would be better, I think.

My son isn’t yet at a reading level to play RPGs and is a bit too enamoured of computers currently

Like many here I’ve been playing/running RPGs for 30+ years. Started with some guy’s home brew and red box D&D. Moved on to AD&D 1e and others from there and I think I’ve run games in just about every format. Now my friends and I play online in broadcasted actual plays for Marvel Superheroes (FASERIP system) and Vampire: the Masquerade v20 edition over at Twitch

I was very surprised to see this site eventually come back. Glad it did though. Welcome back everyone!

It still won’t let me in, but here is a link to StarWars-ish, the free version of StarCluster4, and some ships you can use in any StarWars game:
