I developed this character builder for my game, but it turned out to be fun by itself.
WIC Character Builder

It’s an AI-assisted creative partner for building deeply nuanced characters. It’s a stage-by-stage process to help brainstorm, develop, and synthesize ideas, turning a simple concept into a complete character.
It’s got a nice dossier at the end. The AI prompts are transparent and editable. There’s even a character image generator.
It’s designed in Google AI Studio Builder. The app’s code it also available for you to copy or experiment with. It does require a Google account to access the app.

WIC Quick Cap
When It Clicks is narrative-first and trades traditional stats and mechanics for Keywords, extremely flexible story elements that define everything about your character, from skills and equipment to relationships and personality traits. If it’s worth mentioning about your character, it’s part of a Keyword.
Mechanical Quirks
It’s Always Your Turn: Everyone contributes to every challenge, pooling their Keywords together collaboratively. One player becomes the “Roller” for each task, but the whole table shapes the outcome.
Keywords Are Everything: Instead of ability scores and skill lists, you build your character entirely from Keywords. “Haunted Detective,” “Family Sword,” “Unshakable Loyalty”, each one has a story (Definition, Features, History) and affects gameplay.
Success AND Consequence: You roll two pools simultaneously.
-
Task Dice earn Success Tokens (your wins)
-
Risk Dice earn Consequence Tokens (your complications)
-
No risk, no reward.
Here’s the twist: You need Risk Dice to earn Success Tokens. And you must spend ALL tokens immediately. Successes make you awesome, consequences make things interesting.
Features
- Deep character creation without mechanical fiddly-bits
- Collaborative storytelling, narrativist not gamist
- Meaningful consequences that drive drama
- The freedom to improvise characters on-the-fly, even during task rolls
- Scales from garden heists to cosmic horror without changing rules
- Player agency is paramount
The Cheesy Pitch: If you want a game where “I attempt to charm the guard using my Roguish Wit and the Rumors I Started About His Captain” feels natural, and where dramatic failure is as exciting as success, this clicks.
