Sock Puppets by Kurt Refling and Xan!

The short version of the game, from the cover: A roleplaying game about puppets and their problems. This is designed for 3 - 6 players and plays in 40 - 80 minutes. As of right now, I can only find it on itch.io for $6 for the pdf. I did the KickStarter for CAD 20 ($15) and CAD 11 ($8.24) for shipping, and that got a physical copy, pdf, and an audio version. The audio version was a stretch goal, with “Herman” reading it all out. Estimated delivery was April and arrived “on time” as everything lined up splendidly for Kurt as the test prints arrived in February while the KickStarter was still running. The last update, dated 3/27/2025, stated all copies had been shipped.
The main reason I backed it was the angle: you are a puppeteer voicing a sock puppet on a kid’s show. After the page of obligatory RPG stuff we get into the game. It’s arts and crafts time. You physically need a puppet to play the game, It can be a small paper bag with either markered features, marker features and googly eyes, an actual sock puppet, or a purchased puppet. Like Here We Used to Play, this is a storytelling RPG. It’s also designed to be more adult in theme. There are rules for breaking character, both as a puppeteer and as a player. For structure, again you are part of a kid’s show with a twist, adult themes creep in. The schedule goes: show (12 minutes), commercial (2 minutes), show (12 minutes), commercial (2 minutes), show (12 minutes), epilogue (12 minutes). You’ll need to elect a director to ensure the show runs on time.
Puppets speak during the show, puppeteers during the commercials, with directors calling times along the way. The rest of the book is roles, themes, segments, variations, and playing with actual kids.
This looks to be an excellent, tongue in cheek game, and I love it for that reason.

I’m picturing a bunch of half plastered guys trying to play this and failing for the continuous attack of the giggles.

Don’t think you’d have to have anything in you to get the giggles.

It does help however.
