Six Thrones of Bones - Alan Bahr/GKG

A Kickstarter received early. Projected date was July 2025. As of 5/16/2025, only the pdf is on DTRPG for $7.99, but I’m sure we’re still in “fulfillment time” and Alan/GKG wants to make sure backers have their copies before the general public. As it should be honestly. But that is a different discussion. The book itself is 34 pages and printed in Zine form. The art, outside of the cover, is black and white and is 100% amazing. It gives off, to me anyway, modernized B/X or 1st Edition AD&D vibes.
So the general history of the game is you play one of the last paladins of an ancient esoteric order and you’ve pledged to bring down the 6 necromancers who plunged the land into darkness. To play, one needs a deck of cards sans joker, 2d6, a notebook to act as log, a token to represent your position in the world, and index cards or some other [aper type to mark information you want to track. Character creation is a couple minutes at worst.
The key mechanics for the game: draw 2 cards from your “story deck” (aforementioned deck of cards, shuffled). Roll and sum 2d6. Add any modifiers. Results, interpreted: if your roll is higher than both cards, there’s hope. If your score is higher than one, there’s despair. Otherwise, darkness. It’s not specified whether to sum the card amounts. Aces are worth 1, Jacks 11, Queens 12, and Kings 13. The Kings also represent the six necromancers: 3 black and 3 red.
The deck is used as a story deck and is a “map” of your journey, and your action roll determines where you place cards and thus determine the route. The rules walk through the different scenarios you’ll deal with during the course of a session. Foes are next, and how to deal with them. Lastly is the Six Thrones and their respective necromancers and ending the session.
Overall I would say this looks like it should be a good time and can’t wait to get into it.
