The stars aligned on this one in amazing ways. Fulfillment was supposed to be April 2025, but proofs were done and approved by February 28, 3 days after the KickStarter ended. The KS ran 7 days and reached $5,664 with a goal of $2,000. Would have been interesting to see what it would have hit if it had run 30 days, or even 10 - 14. $14 + $6 (shipping) got one a physical zine (15 pages) copy and pdf. The game is available for pre-order on gilarpgs.com for $15. Gila is on DTRPG, though the game’s not yet listed there in any capacity. Yet.
The game itself is pretty cool for being minimalist. The entire book is $1 a page. I know. You’re thinking “I’m gonna page a buck a page for a game?” There’s actually a bit here for a small book.
Omen is about a world doomed to end. You’ll need 3 - 5 people with 1 being GM. One will also need 10d6 per player (more on that later). It’s designed to be a one-off session, and not a campaign style game. As such, no rules for progression or creating long-arcing games. The core mechanic is there’s a Difficulty Value (DV) of 2 - 6 and 8 (or 9) of your d6 being rolled before the game starts to be used as you go along to either succeed or fail as situations present themselves.
The gist of the game is the world is doomed for reasons you and the GM determine, and you try to defy it happening at this point. There is a “doom” and “defy” clock, and whichever ends first determines the outcome. They could both be set at 8, or each could be set differently to allow for one to be achieved easier than the other.
Everyone helps create the setting for which the world is about to be destroyed, create characters and clocks, and play. To create your character, decide if you want one or two omens, and the remainder of the 10d6 become the aforementioned rolls where you either succeed or fail in circumstances presented. Situations happen, and wither the world ends or you defy fate at this time and decide how things move forward.
