Oldest Child - Justin Sirois

Another Kickstarter received. Right now, the game is available on severedbooks.com for $49.99. There is a print and play at DTRPG showing on sale for $9.99, though I’m not sure if it will be available “in print” there as well, though I know Drive-Thru does have the capabilities to produce the game. It can be played solo or with 3 - 8 people and a GM. It’s a cooperative game and is designed to be a long haul game. Gameplay is listed as 6 - 8 hours.
The gist of the game is it’s modern day in your city. You and some friends were out doing the thing and whilst driving down a lonely road and you’re in an accident. Maybe you hit a deer, maybe you hit another car, whatever. Needless to say, your car ended up flipped and starts on fire. As you are struggling you see movement outside the car and the bunch of you are saved by Lyda, a vampire. As to character creation, there isn’t any. You play yourself. If you are playing solo, you create 2 other characters based on people you know so there can always be at least 3 characters.
For gameplay, it’s set up to be a 3 year long game (in game time, not real time, though you could conceivably do it with short sessions once a month). There are several groupings (or decks if you prefer) of cards each with its own function, one being a group of 36 cards to represent a month in the game. You shuffle the deck, pick the top card and that’s your scenario for the month, or the main event for the month. There are also decks for some history of Lyda and some Item/Effect cards. The inevitable endgame is one or more of the characters will likely end up as a vampire.
It does look to be an interesting game, even with the long run time. The plus side is it doesn’t need to be played in one session, it can be broken up into multiple sessions as wanted or needed.
