Goodbye WotC - YouTube And yet, D&D sales are up. Apparently. There are so many other options out there. And “we” are supporting this? More and more, I am glad I have started looking into the smaller publishers over the past 4 years or so. Getting to the point where I could give a flip if D&D survives. I’ve got other options that seem to be better than D&D in their systems and storytelling ability.
I developed my own variant. New game books come out of my computer. They turned their back on the older fan, I turned my wallet away from them. I have not bought a book it two editions. They are why.

I still play and run AD&D exclusively and will never give the company another cent. Just like the OP, I don’t care if WotC or the D&D brand survives.

I have said for years. Many times on the old P&P, “The words do not fall off the page when a new edition comes out.” Play what you like.
